Ohneland & Die Farben des Bleibens

Filmstill from DIE FARBEN DES BLEIBENS by Eckstein-Kovács Ráhel and Kristina Bublevskaya

Fri 10.11.
18:00

With the video OHNELAND, Hatice Ayten reacts to a series of right-wing attacks on Turkish apartment buildings in Germany in the 1990s. Here, young women voice their anger, and refuse to be intimidated by the racist violence. The film provided the title for the focus program no(wo)mansland at the festival ...the point is to change it in 1997. The melancholic view of gray places precedes DIE FARBEN DES BLEIBENS, which makes visible what follows after the anger. While photographs flicker across woodchip wallpaper, we hear the voices of a woman, who came from Morocco to Germany as part of the 1963 recruitment agreement. “I have discovered words for myself” – says one of the interviewees of the second generation describing her response to racism. In their documentary film, Eckstein-Kovács Ráhel, and Kris Bublevskaya provide a space for the female protagonists, to tell of their struggles and their joint political organizing, but also paint a picture of solidarity and loving affection. (fe)
